What do people want from Jane Austen? This was the question I asked myself while I watched the trailer for the latest adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, which came out in theaters last week. The question isn't a knock on the movie, which I haven't seen
I was 15 when I first watched Thelma & Louise. I saw it in the theater with my best friend, and it spoke to us loudly enough that we began to call each other Thelma and Louise (I was Thelma) and I drew a picture of the movie's
October is Horror Movie Month on the Criterion Channel: all but one of its series are devoted to the genre (the exception being "Starring Madonna," which arguably also qualifies, but I'm going to give Madge a break this week). I have a lifelong aversion to horror
Madonna's been having a very good year. In July she released Confessions II, her fifteenth studio album, and it became a both a commercial and critical juggernaut. This past Sunday, she dominated the MTV VMAs, winning seven awards and giving a performance that managed to incorporate both a
Yesterday I was riding in a two-way bike lane when a Citibiker riding in the opposite direction swerved into my lane almost directly in front of me. There was no collision, but as she passed by, I said, loudly and clearly, "no." That she was wearing earbuds*

Since I dedicated last week's newsletter to Regarding Henry, Harrison Ford's (arguably) worst movie, I'm dedicating this week's post, the last of Harrison Ford Month, to his (arguably) best movie. As with his worst movie, I had a hard time deciding what
According to IMDb, Harrison Ford has 87 acting credits to his name. Any actor is bound to appear in a stinker or two*, especially over the course of such a long career. When I decided to dedicate this week's newsletter to one of Harrison's worst movies,
