Five for the Weekend
A brief weekly round-up of some things that are good.
Lactaid. The ideal Ashkenazi stocking stuffer, if we did that kind of thing.
Cookies. As both a general category of food and the title of Jesse Szewczyk's baking book. The latter serves a dual purpose as my reliable inspiration for December cookie swaps and an aspirational lifestyle guide.
This very long David Byrne profile in The New Yorker. Admittedly I haven't finished it yet, but I'm happy it's there.
It's the time of year when I get to order my new Dolphin Studio calendar. Made by the ffrench family in Massachusetts since 1971, it's just about the only thing that makes me look forward to the passage of time.
On a similar note, it's also the time of year when I can finally listen to the Pogues' "Fairytale of New York" on repeat without feeling weird about it. Also, I didn't know until about five minutes ago that the video features a cameo by Matt Dillon as a cop. 'Tis the season!
