Five for the Weekend
A brief weekly round-up of some things that are good this week.
That puppy. Her name is Grace, and she's three months old and perfect. I met her at Animal Haven, the animal shelter where I volunteer each week. Sometimes people ask if I want to take dogs home with me every time I volunteer, and well, I give you Exhibit A.
Richard Hell's 2005 novel Godlike was just reissued by New York Review Books. It's the urine-soaked tale of two acid-head poets in 1970s New York and it's squalid and beautiful and unforgettable.
Every so often I like to watch clips of Queen's 1985 Live Aid performance at Wembley Stadium and ugly-cry to Freddie Mercury singing "We Are the Champions."
Stephen Colbert ripping CBS a new asshole is the only news I care to consume.
Earlier this week I watched On Thin Ice, a little-known 2003 Diane Keaton movie in which Keaton plays a turtleneck-wearing meth addict. It's...incredible.
